Get some steel sheet no thicker, or ideally ~1/32 thinner than your blade kerf.ĭo a mock up with a piece of card stock and get your shape just right then trace it on the steel.Ĭut your shape out with a jig saw, clean it up with a grinder, drill a hole for the attachment point. If you don't, or you want a different guard then make your own splitter with the same attachment point. Beyond the Microjig path, is there another solution? Thanks in advance.Googling that part number it looks like you get the whole splitter/guard assembly?

I know that Microjig makes a splitter but it costs just as much as the factory knife/guard. My question is, is there a cheaper solution to put in a riving knife? Seems counter productive to buy the factory riving knife/blade guard only to disassemble it when it's not meant to be taken apart. Beyond the Microjig path, is there another solution? Thanks in advance.

Also, there is no mention of removing the blade guard in user manual. Googling a photo of the part number, it looks like the riving knife, anti-kickback pawls and blade guard comes as one unit. I called the Dewalt service center and after some digging around I found out that the table saw didn't have a "riving knife" but instead a "blade guard" (part # 5140032-00). The biggest problem is that it never came with the riving knife. Scooped it up on the cheap because of some issues with it but I've since fixed it and tuned it as best I can. Looking for a little guidance for a recently acquired Dewalt DW745 (Type 1) table saw.
